OXO, the Videogame Museum of Malaga, will open its doors on 26th January with the aim of becoming a national reference in the videogame sector.
The Plaza del Siglo building becomes an interactive and avant-garde space to experience the past, present and future of the Videogame Industry.
OXO Video Game Museum will open its doors on 26 January. This ambitious project, led by the technology group Kaiju, comes to the city to consolidate it as the nerve and cultural centre of the video game industry in Europe. The museum is located in the building at Plaza del Siglo, 2, owned by the Provincial Council of Malaga, and has been made available to house this cutting-edge interactive space of almost 2000 square metres dedicated entirely to the past, present and future of digital entertainment.
The definitive date for the opening was announced this Tuesday in the Salon de los Pasos Perdidos, in a press conference attended by the President of the Provincial Council of Malaga, Francisco Salado; the CEO of Kaiju Group, Javier Ramos and the Director of OXO, Javier Arbós.
With an investment of over two million euros and two thousand square metres of visitable area, OXO aspires to become a national benchmark in the video game sector, giving voice and light to all the international players involved in the video game: developers, manufacturers, artists, programmers, designers and, of course, players. The Museum was created with the mission of preserving and conserving the video game legacy and exhibiting it for the study, enjoyment and knowledge of the public, fans and video game experts.
The space, distributed over five floors, is dedicated to the past, present and future of video games in all their facets. Its facilities include a new immersive room generated with the latest Unreal Engine 5 technology. The first floor of the museum is dedicated to the permanent collection, ‘70 years of video game history’, with more than 500 original pieces. In this exhibition, visitors can discover the history of video games, their protagonists, systems, technological innovations and outstanding titles in which the visitor can interact with unique and unprecedented equipment in Europe.
Temporary exhibitions will take centre stage on the first floor of the building. OXO aims to offer a multifaceted vision in which to analyse video games from different points of view in order to highlight the value of this industry as an artistic and cultural manifestation that transcends the medium itself and connects with society.
The avant-garde, experimentation and the most innovative proposals in the video games and technology sector have their place in OXO LABS, the space located on the third floor of the building. Here visitors will be in contact with the latest advances in software and hardware.
On the fourth floor (attic of the building) Terraza Catedral will open its doors, a gastronomic space with its own culinary offer.
During the press conference, the President of the Provincial Council, Francisco Salado, stated that this museum “will be unique in Spain and Europe and will complete the province's offer of culture, leisure and tourism; it was the missing piece and it fits perfectly with the technological take-off of Malaga”. He also added that it will be “a living museum”, which will adapt to new trends, with exhibition areas, conferences, games, training and workshops, and is designed to be open to society and to collaborate with other entities.
For his part, Kaiju's CEO, Javier Ramos, revealed that OXO already has the backing of major brands and industry representatives, who will use OXO's facilities to disseminate some of their advances and products.
